Outdoor Summer

The fresh, clear air here in the Bernau High Valley practically invites you to get active and exercise in nature. Step by step, you'll approach the enchanting nature of the Southern Black Forest Biosphere Reserve and feel how the power of the forest, the fresh mountain meadows, and crystal-clear streams benefits your physical fitness and health. After a few days, you'll feel the difference.

Premium hiking trails

The "Hochtalsteig" panoramic hiking trail runs along the entire high valley on the south side and, on clear days, offers views as far as the Alps. Another premium hiking trail, the Albsteig, runs through Bernau. From Bernau-Innerlehen, where our hotel is located, the Albsteig leads along the banks of the Bernauer Alb to the Spitzenberg sports center. From here, you cross Bernau-Dorf and hike along narrow paths over the Scheibenfelsen, through sunny meadows and shady forests, up to the Krunkelbachhütte. Before you reach it, a wonderful view of the Bernauer Hochtal opens up. From the hut, the trail leads through an idyllic valley, along wide forest paths and a narrow path up to the Herzogenhorn. From this highest point on the Albsteig, you have a fantastic panoramic view of the Black Forest all the way to the Alps. From the summit, the Albsteig leads hikers past the Herzogenhorn performance center to the top of the Feldberg pass.

Platform with sky lounger

At the small Spießhorn, there's a newly constructed viewing platform with a comfortable sky lounger. Here, you can take a break and recover from the climb. There are additional sky loungers along the Hochtalsteig trail. All are located in beautiful spots with views over Bernau and the surrounding countryside.

Forest bathing

The rustling of leaves, the birdsong, the scent of herbs, fresh grass, and damp forest floor, the interplay of shadows and light – there's hardly a better place to unwind and recharge than in the forest. Forest bathing, or "Shinrin-Yoku," originates from Japan. Translated, it means something like "bathing in the forest air." Japanese researchers recognized the positive health effects of a walk in the forest early on. The forest is a place of peace and relaxation. It also has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, the general immune system, and the psyche. According to some studies, a stay in the forest even mobilizes the body's own natural cancer-fighting cells. Why not give it a try?

Mountain bike

For mountain bikers, Bernau, with its many surrounding peaks, is an ideal touring area; for leisurely cyclists, these elevation gains are a pleasure, especially on an electric bike. Take a test ride on an e-bike or mountain bike! You can rent bikes at the Sport Thoma sports shop in Bernau, also in the Innerlehen district (phone: 49 7675 405). With the Inclusive Guest Card, you can even rent them for free for half a day (mornings from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; afternoons from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

Paragliding

Take off from everyday life in the Bernau High Valley.

For many years, the Bernau High Valley has been a popular destination for vacationers who want to learn paragliding. The Skymaster paragliding school offers beginner courses from spring to autumn. Training takes place at the Köpfle in Bernau, very close to our house in the Innerlehen district. The sunny Bernau High Valley, with its gentle slopes and large landing areas, offers ideal conditions for a successful course. The five-day basic course will enable you to fly freely in the training area. Flying equipment will be provided for the duration of the training.
